This past Sunday, around 4PM, the world was right. Marci and I were watching a football game, Will was napping, and I was reading Eldredge's new one The Way of the Wild Heart. Then, we heard the noise. It was a strange series of clicks, followed by a clunk and, it occurred about evey two minutes or so. Marci asked, "What is that?" I answered with, "Probably the icemaker or the dishwasher". What I was actually saying was that I didn't know but didn't really want to get up to find out.
After about 15 minutes of this strange noise, I'd had enough and put on my detective cap to go and find it, kill it, and solve the problem. The noise continued and I ended up in the basement, staring at the furnace and hearing the clicks and clunks, watching the flame come on, and then shut off. Obviously, there was a problem and since furnaces are way beyond my scope of knowledge, we shut the furnace down, packed up and headed for my Mother-in-Law's.
To make a long story short, three days of diagnosing the problem by a trusted professional, it was decided that due to planned obsolecence of parts required to repair the furnace, we would have to put a new unit in. The problem is, a new unit is around $3,000 and that is a tough sum of money to come up with. But, it's either you have heat or not, so I worked out a deal with my furnace man and he put in a new unit.
I hated to bite the bullet but now it is obvious that God's hand was in this. First of all, a house burned down and a three year old died in a fire just down the street from us. That's scary, but to add to it, a friend of ours has been having Carbon Monoxide problems in her house. So, here's the deal:
Upon removal of our broken furnace, it was discovered that the inside of the furnace was cracked to peices and this condition was allowing Carbon Monoxide to leak out, and be distributed throughout our entire home. But there's more, becuase it's a wonder that the entire unit didn't catch on fire. These cracks were providing a pathway for gas flames to escape!
Once again, God came through and saved us as He always does. Sometimes He thunders at us, sometimes He whispers, but this time He Clicked and Clunked!

Glad you're OK.
Yea, it's pretty important to listen isn't it?
